A Moving Historical Tale

Posted by on April 9, 2014

Blood Brothers in LouisbourgBlood Brothers in Louisbourg is still making the rounds among reviewers, and it’s picking up a lot of love as it goes. The authors of the Recently Read blog call it “an engaging story” and “Highly recommended!”

“Mr. Roy has created a moving historical tale that touches on a part of Canada’s past that is often overlooked — observations from both inhabitants – those ‘discovering’ Canada and from the First Nations.”

Still not convinced? Check out the teaser video they made, “A Voyage into the Unknown….”

Gaelic Review of Naughty Little Book of Gaelic

Posted by on April 2, 2014

Naughty Little Book of GaelicThis isn’t your typical Gaelic book. It’s for those of you who’ve been wondering how to swear, or talk about drinking, smoking and fooling around in Gaelic. Michael Newton composed his Naughty Little Book of Gaelic with you in mind.

We’re hoping this book will be a welcome, exciting addition to the world of Gaelic studies. The online Gaelic magazine Dàna posted a review of it this week. The review is entirely in Gaelic, but the book is in both English and Gaelic. Here are some translated excerpts from the review:

“This naughty, entertaining book covers many topics. From end to end, I have never had so much fun and laughter from a book about Gaelic as I had inside these pages.”

“I have always been fond of the writings of Michael Newton and this playful and bold book only magnifies that. If you haven’t had a proper look at this book yet, ‘as sure as the horse has a penis,’ you will enjoy it.”

You can purchase the book directly from us or from your local independent bookstore.

You can enter to win here, on Goodreads.

If you’re not on Goodreads already, it’s easy to sign up, and you’ll be glad you did.

About Johnston’s first novel, Thomas: A Secret Life, reviewers are saying:

“Johnston has without a doubt changed my opinion of historical fiction.”

“This is a fine novel, one that strikes just the right balance between fact and fiction.”
—Trevor Sawler, The Antigonish Review, on Thomas: A Secret life

“The blending of history and fiction that Johnston gives us, and which I thought would be the book’s greatest weakness, is exceptionally well handled.”

“Johnston deftly presents an unrepentant, unsavoury and unreliable [character] in an even-handed manner.”
—Atlantic Books Today on Thomas: A Secret Life

The Maze is the exciting new instalment in the Thomas Pichon series, but it is wonderful as a standalone read.

The contest is open to Canadian residents only, and we ask that winners write a review of the book on Goodreads. Good luck!
