Michael Newton on the Highland Clearances
Michael Newton, editor of the recently published Celts in the Americas, has written an informative blog post on the Highland Clearances in which he asks, “If it is no longer acceptable to rationalize the dispossession and displacement of other native peoples on account of their supposed inferiority… why is this same underlying conceit so seldom questioned about the Gaels?” Anyone interested in the history of the Highland Clearances should read the post in full.
