Seven Miles Deep: Mining Faces from the Owen Fitzgerald Collection
This book is out of print.
The Beaton Institute, founded in 1957 at what is now Cape Breton University, is the archival home of many thousands of invaluable documents, recordings and photographs – a repository of Cape Breton history and culture.
When commercial photographer Owen Fitzgerald closed his photographic studio after 25 years in business, he donated his own archive to the Beaton Institute – including images captured in Cape Breton’s once-thriving coal mines.
Seven Miles Deep: Mining Faces from the Owen Fitzgerald Collection from the Beaton Institute celebrates the character and camaraderie captured in the faces of Cape Breton coal miners in their work environment, deep under the ocean.
