Arts educators in every province are challenged by the demands placed on them as a result of attitudes and expectations within education. Educators face declining resources while implementing new structures, policies, and programs in dance, drama, music and the visual arts. The National Symposium on Arts Education ’97, hosted by the Canadian Music Educators’ Association, provided an opportunity for arts educators, professional artists, and representatives from government agencies to discuss common concerns and to develop strategies for strengthening the arts in Canadian schools.
